I’m sure younger players will come at the software more naturally than I. I'm not particularly technically savvy admittedly. There is a feel thing that just doesn’t come across. It doesn’t sound like a real drummer playing real drums the way I would want them performed. Too often I don’t like the options I’m presented with in EZD but with a good deal of editing and enough patience I usually end up with something workable (but often less than ideal). Having to think about where the kick goes as opposed to sitting behind a kit just doing it without even thinking. It has always been way more instinctual and natural to *just play something*. I got EZ drummer this past summer in an attempt to kickstart myself writing and recording more at home since I no longer had access to drums or a space to play/record them in.įor me the biggest stumbling block is trying to *think* about drums and drumming. I really got turned off by the cost of additional midi grooves and sample packs etc etc etc. So if I drag in any midi groove into the Reaper DAW, will I be able to edit the midi?īummer to hear that EZ and Superior pretty much share the same drumming vocabulary. All my experience with EZ thus far is as standalone. For reference, the DAW I'm using is Reaper, but I have not yet uploaded EZ Drummer as a plug-in yet into Reaper. I'm taking about editing in or out single midi hits.

I did explore the Globe search web option as well, it was cool, but I still felt it didn't capture what I was looking for still.Įditing existing grooves to make it more what im looking for: Is this possible using standalone EX Drummer? I know how to change hit-hat hits from open to close, changing the type of tom used etc. I will explore options to purchase more midi grooves from affordable sites like Groove Monkee. I do think that the base pack for midi grooves are very lacking. I think my main issue is i'm trying to build up the drum parts to a song I'm working on, and I pretty much have every single drum hit mapped out roughly in my head, and I'm expecting EZ to have everything populated correctly for me when I punched in the initial snare/bass groove. I definitely need to sit down and explore it more. The midi will show up in the browser and in all the tap2find searches. Just copy the “Toontrack” file set into a folder and go into EZD2’s settings and point it to that folder as an added location. It elevates EZD2 to another level, turning it into a good drum pattern search tool.

Yes I think the Groove Monkee pack is a good deal.

I liked the style of drum set, but mainly was hoping I would get some of the midi patterns that were played in the demo songs. Seems the EZX’s are heavily weighted on giving new drum sounds, and are very light on midi. I bought one during Black Friday thinking it would come with many midi files. I agree that the expansions are expensive. I mainly use EZD2 just to find midi and either route the output to another drum plugin, or drag the midi to the other plugin’s track. The tap2find feature really shines when you load up EZD2 with lots of midi. Bought EZD2 and then the Groove Monkee mega pack. Click to expand. That’s exactly what I did.
